First Floor Restaurant (Oxford)

The First Floor Restaurant on the Cowley Road, Oxford opened in 2009 and offers a wide range of cuisine in the oriental style.  When planning the shopfit, they approached Bose Professional division requesting some input on the background music system.  A basic concept was arrived at and Bose chose Overture as their preferred installer for the system.

The layout of the restaurant is very open and one of the concerns of the owners was that the music level was consistent across the space.  Because, as the name of the place suggests, the dining room is on the first floor, it was also important that music was audible to lure prospective diners from the ground floor street level.

The solution arrived at by Bose and Overture was a 100v line system using over 20 flush speakers to provide a fine balance of music across the whole space.  This ensured that everyone could hear the sound clearly and there were not ‘hotspots’ where the music was either too loud or too quiet.

Bose DS16F speakers were chosen for their clarity and discretion and a Bose DXA-2120 provided the amplification and equalisation for the system.  Speakers were also installed in the bathroom, corridor and lobby areas so that there is a consistent level of music across the building.

The result is a reliable, discreet system that meets all of the design targets and has worked seamlessly for over 16 hours a day, every day since its installation in 2009.
